LORAIN — A 25-year-old Lorain man has been arrested and charged with felonious assault after a shooting Saturday.

According to police, Darius Cannon shot 33-year-old Joshua Hunt of South Euclid in the leg. Hunt later called police from Garfield Elementary School.

“As I examined Joshua’s wound, he stated he was here (visiting) Leseanda Nichols, at her residence, 1733 Long Ave.,” the police report said. “Joshua explained shortly before leaving he was shot by Darius Cannon, who has a child in common with Leseanda. Joshua then drove away from the area until he reached Garfield Elementary School.”

According to the police report, Hunt was bleeding heavily from the leg before being taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain where his condition is unknown.

Police said after speaking with Hunt, officers returned to Long Avenue to speak with Nichols, who told officers Cannon was still in the residence. He was arrested and taken to Lorain City Jail where he was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

According to Lorain court records, Cannon has a history of domestic violence and weapons charges, being charged with the former offense four times, as well as possession of weapons under disability, improper handling of a firearm in a vehicle and carrying a concealed weapon with priors.

Cannon also faced charges of kidnapping, aggravated robbery, driving under suspension, violating a protection order, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin.
